Novice Bowls Match Report

BEGINNERS & NOVICES BOWLS MATCH
14th JULY 2017

As a follow-up to the Open Day held on the bowls green earlier in the year, a challenge match was arranged for beginners and novices, giving them the opportunity of playing a proper match against players of a similar standard.

Four pairs matches were played on a hot morning, with experienced Bowls Club members on hand on each rink to give guidance and assistance and to keep the scores. To give the matches a bit of a competitive edge, prizes of “extremely expensive” bottles of wine were up for grabs for the winners on each rink.

The results were as follows:

Rink 1: Kay (No.83) & Tom (Saydo) beat Marilyn & Roger (No.13): 7 - 3.
Rink 2: Stella (No.46) & Dennis (No.118) beat Chris Ennever & Doug (115): 12 - 6.
Rink 3: Penny & Tony (No. 12) beat Julie (No.108) & Ted (No.105): 14 - 12.
Rink 4: Phil (No. 72) & John (Saydo) beat Jean & John (No.29): 22 - 8.

The best result of the day was undoubtedly on rink 3, where late stand-ins and experienced bowlers, Julie and Ted, were beaten by novice bowlers Penny and Tony. Well done to them and to everyone else who took part and assisted on the day.

A reminder that Club sessions at the bowls green are currently held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6.30pm and on Sundays at 10.00am. ALL residents are welcome to join in, with bowls and bowling shoes available for use by anyone who needs them.
